The Band Played On

101 the 80’s kicked-off 2019 rocking out to New Jersey’s  own The Smithereens featuring Robin Wilson to a capacity crowd  last night at the State Theater in Falls Church, Va. Wilson, lead singer of the Gin Blossoms, filled in for the late Pat Dinizio.  Wilson took over from Marshall Crenshaw who fronted for the group during a previous tour. Crenshaw will be back with the group during the west leg of their 2019 tour. Wilson, a self-proclaimed Smithereens fan from his earliest days working  as a young salesperson at a record store in Tempe, Az., sounded terrific with the entire set of Smithereens songs from the early days to their hits  “A Girl like You,”  “Only a Memory,” and “Blood and Roses” along with original members Dennis Diken,  Jim Babjak and Mike Mesaros. This type of creative collaboration allows us all to enjoy great original music we grew to love in the 80’s and still love today. In the meantime, check out The Smithereens website  for tour dates.
